It forms part of the ATLAS collaboration operating at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN.. QUICK LINKS: We report on a longitudinal study of the emergence of the ATLAS detector, a complex technological system developed at CERN, Geneva. Our data show that the coordination of initial architectural choices was driven by cycles of contestation and justification that resulted in the creation of what we term interlaced knowledge—pockets of shared knowledge interwoven within and across subsystem The CERN lab is one of the only places in the world that can readily produce the these antiparticles clump together to form atoms of antimatter. he joined New Atlas as a staff writer in 2016.

At 46 m long, 25 m high and 25 m wide, the 7000-tonne ATLAS detector is the largest volume particle detector ever constructed. It sits in a cavern 100 m below ground near the main CERN site, close to the village of Meyrin in Switzerland. More than 3000 scientists from 174 institutes in 38 countries work on the ATLAS experiment (February 2012). ATLAS (A Toroidal LHC ApparatuS) is the largest, general-purpose particle detector experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), a particle accelerator at CERN (the European Organization for Nuclear Research) in Switzerland. Spain first joined CERN in 1961, withdrew in 1969, and rejoined in 1983. Yugoslavia was a founding member of CERN but quit in 1961.
Our membership in ATLAS and CERN will benefit not only particle physics people, but many other researchers with interests in machine learning and data science. After restarting the high energy physics research 5 years ago at NIP, this is a big step and we hope to eventually become a full member of ATLAS as we continue to grow the High Energy and Nuclear Physics group of the Institute,” quips

It is being used to research subjects like dark matter, the Higgs Boson, and whether or not the existence of extra dimensions can be proven. 2021-03-23 · The optical lines (red) form a network of alignment detectors that continuously monitors the positions of the chambers relative to each other and their deformations. (Image: ATLAS collaboration/CERN) The muon spectrometer is made up of several thousand chambers and is the outermost layer of the ATLAS detector. We will use the ATLAS Analysis Release to setup our environment and our software in the correct version (such as the versions recommended by the CP groups). You can use the Analysis Release if you have access to cvmfs (lxplus, local clusters, machines, and the Grid).

The ATLAS Collaboration at CERN has just released the first open dataset from the Large Hadron Collider’s (LHC) highest-energy run at 13 teraelectronvolts (TeV). The new release is specially developed for science education, underlining the Collaboration’s long-standing commitment to students and teachers using open-access ATLAS data and related tools. Our membership in ATLAS and CERN will benefit not only particle physics people, but many other researchers with interests in machine learning and data science. At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light.
